New York State Snowmobile Association
NOTICE: With the impending snow storm hitting now until tomorrow (Nov 11 & 12), NYSSA would like to remind all snowmobilers that the NYS SNOWMOBILE TRAILS ARE NOT OPEN yet! Please respect the landowners and clubs' volunteers by NOT being that person who gets a trail shutdown because of riding before they are officially opened. Snowmobile clubs have agreements with their property owners and land-use permits on State lands, such as DEC and Parks properties that allow snowmobile use. Those agreements many times include a minimum date that the trails can be opened, including such reasons as: Crops or Livestock still in the fields; Hunting their own land or allowing others to hunt; or other factors. Just because there's snow on the ground does NOT mean designated snowmobile trails on lands of others is open for riding.
"KNOW WHERE YOU CAN GO, BEFORE YOU GO!" Obviously, snowmobile clubs are only responsible for the trails which they maintain. Riders who own their own land can ride any time they wish, as well as on Legally-designated Town Seasonal Roads. Just pay attention, as it is hard to distinguish between a Seasonal Road to a Private Road or DEC land admin roads that are used as part of the official network of NYS snowmobile trails.
Please wait until the very earliest date before venturing out onto the snowmobile trails...which is the day after deer hunting seasons end in NYS. The clubs and their landowners dictate when the trails open after that. See these first 2 maps within this link to see those hunting dates: www.dec.ny.gov/outdoor/28605.html#deer
